Emtee Claims R700,000 Royalty Theft Amid Personal and Legal Struggles
South African hip-hop star Emtee has sent shockwaves through the music industry after revealing he was allegedly robbed of nearly R700,000 in royalties. The “Roll Up” hitmaker shared the distressing news during an emotional Instagram Live session, where he described a sophisticated breach that has left him financially strained.
According to a legal affidavit released by his team, the issue is linked to his 2021 album Logan. Investigations reportedly uncovered that the banking details on his digital distribution portal were secretly altered between January 2021 and February 2023. This change allegedly redirected monthly royalty payments into an unauthorized account without his knowledge.
Although the distributor continued processing payments, his team insists the funds never reached him due to the fraudulent switch. As of late March 2026, the distributor has yet to publicly explain how the platform’s security was compromised.
The controversy comes amid personal turmoil for the rapper. During the live session, Emtee also revealed he is facing serious challenges, including being forced out of his home following a restraining order and dealing with a pending divorce from his wife, Nicole Chinsamy.
