PF Official Statement on the Death of Former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE PATRIOTIC FRONT ON THE DEATH OF ZAMBIA’S SIXTH PRESIDENT, DR. EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU
Thursday, 5th June 2025

The Patriotic Front (PF) regrets to announce the death of Zambia’s Sixth Republican President, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

Dr. Lungu passed away today, Thursday, 5th June 2025, at around 6 a.m. at Mediclinic Medforum Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa. He had been receiving specialized medical treatment.

The news was confirmed by his daughter, Chawama Member of Parliament Hon. Tasila Lungu-Mwansa, and the family’s lawyer, Hon. Makebi Zulu. Mr. Zulu stated that the family was still in the process of informing other relatives about the sad development.

Dr. Lungu served as President of the Republic of Zambia from 26th January 2015 until 24th August 2021. He will be remembered for his service to the country and his leadership during a time of many challenges.

The PF, under Acting President Hon. Given Lubinda, sends its deepest condolences to the Lungu family, friends, and the people of Zambia.

More details, including funeral arrangements, will be announced in due course.
